Akash Patnaik, MD, PhD, MMSc and Justin Kline, MD were named Program Co-Leaders for The University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center’s (UCCCC) Research Programs. Jing Chen, PhD, has been appointed the Associate Director for Translational Sciences for the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center, effective November 1, 2023. Marina Garassino, MD selected as Fellow of the European Society for Medical Oncology

Marina Garassino, MD, was selected as Fellow of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). This program was launched in 2022 to recognize, honor and reward ESMO members for their exceptional commitment to the Society. Dr. Garassino will be honored as Fellow of the Society during the ESMO 2023 Congress in Madrid on October 20, 2023 for her dedication and involvement in ESMO activities that have helped shape the Society into what it has become today: the largest professional organization for medical oncology.

Russell Szmulewitz, MD appointed Associate Director for Clinical Investigation for the UMCCC

Russell Szmulewitz, MD, has been appointed as the Associate Director for Clinical Investigation for the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center, effective July 12, 2023. He has been in the role in an interim capacity since November 2022. Dr. Szmulewitz is an Associate Professor of Medicine and the Director of the Genitourinary Oncology Program. He is also a co-leader of the UCCCC Clinical and Experimental Therapeutics Program. William Parker, MD, PhD, Recipient of the 2023-2024 John D. Arnold, MD Mentor Award

Dr. William Parker, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Section of Pulmonary/Critical Care is the recipient of the 2023-2024 John D. Arnold, MD Mentor Award. This award is in recognition of Dr. Parker’s sustained excellence in mentoring a Pritzker medical student at the Annual Scientific Session. He will be recognized with the award during the Session’s Award Ceremony on May 15, 2024. Dr. Parker is a medical ethicist and health services researcher who studies the allocation of scarce medical resources.
