$5M grant awarded to support “My Diabetes, My Community” research trial for managing patient care

Researchers at the University of Chicago Medicine are launching a four-year research trial to test the effects of two evidenced-based interventions for personalized diabetes care for older adults, thanks to a new $5 million grant provided by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), part of the National Institutes of Health. The “My Diabetes, My Community” research trial incorporates two existing strategies designed to personalize sugar control goals, engage patients and enhance self-care. Chicago Center for HIV Elimination awarded $5M for community COVID-19 testing and prevention

The Chicago Center for HIV Elimination has been awarded $5 million over two years through the National Institute of Health’s (NIH) RADx Underserved Populations program. The money will support a COVID-19 testing project across eight rural and urban sites in the Central U.S. to engage two disenfranchised populations: low-income Latinx individuals and people of any ethnicity who’ve previously been involved with the criminal justice system, but are not currently incarcerated. Joseph Baron,MD (1938-2020)

Dr. Joseph Baron  passed away on September 20,2020  in Boston at the age of 82. Dr. Baron served the Department of Medicine for over 50 years and his contributions to the clinical, research and educational missions of the Department were second to none. Dr. Baron enrolled as an undergraduate at the University of Chicago in 1954. The University of Chicago Medicine’s Center for Asian Health Equity has received a five-year, $4.25 million federal grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to increase colorectal cancer screenings, particularly among underserved and rural communities in Illinois.
