Fellow Summer Core Lecture Series:
Each summer, the faculty in rheumatology present a series of core lectures that introduce and review the clinical manifestations of the various rheumatic diseases, diagnostic testing in the rheumatic diseases, and the basics of MSK imaging.
Immunology Club:
This is a monthly basic, introductory series of lectures in immunology/autoimmunity presented during the summer. Chapter reviews on the topic to be discussed should be read prior to the session to ensure participation and foundational knowledge.
Rheumatology Grand Rounds:
Clinical case presentations from the inpatient and outpatient services, research presentations, core curriculum topics, journal clubs, and pediatric rheumatology topics are presented in this conference by internal faculty, visiting faculty, and fellows. A master calendar and assignments is posted on the bulletin board by the fellow carousels.
Fellows Lecture Series:
The Fellows Conference offers lectures on core curriculum topics, additional clinical case presentations, fellow journal review, board review series, ultrasound, physical and occupational therapy topics. These talks (both rheumatology and other disciplines) are primarily done by fellows to discuss core topics and will also include talks/didactics from UCMC faculty.
Fellow journal reviews are informal but intensive journal article review sessions (different from Journal Club) held to improve critical review/reading skills. Fellows will be able to learn and critique various types of research papers in rheumatology and also stay up-to-date in the field. It will be held and led by a fellow on a monthly basis.
Each presentation will be evaluated by its attendees.
Musculoskeletal Radiology Conference:
Plain films, CT scans, and MRI studies obtained on inpatients and outpatients are reviewed with our musculoskeletal radiologists. An interesting case file is kept by the rheumatology fellows using the patient MRN number. These cases are reviewed during the conference by the fellows, with the radiology attendings providing guidance as to how to best read these studies. Interactive fellow interpretation will be on the 1st Tuesday of each month. Please come prepared with at least 1 teaching slide/ case.
Journal Club:
Journal Club is interspersed within Rheumatology Grand Rounds. Basic science or clinical articles are alternated and chosen by the presenting fellow. A shared presentation occurs with a faculty mentor (chosen by the fellow) providing an introductory background and the fellow then presenting the paper. The presenting fellow is expected to rigorously analyze the paper.
Board Review:
Board Review is interspersed within Fellows Conference.
Ultrasound Didactics:
Ultrasound Didactic is interspersed within Fellows Conference.
Combined Dermatology-Rheumatology Clinical Pathology Conference:
Quarterly
Rheumatology fellows and Dermatology residents/fellows present cases to and lead rigorous evidence-based discussions amongst the members from both sections.
Department of Medicine Grand Rounds:
DOM Grand Rounds provides a weekly clinical or translational conference for all members of the Department of Medicine.
