The Section of Nephrology provides excellent patient care for a wide range of clinical problems. All of our physicians are specialists in nephrology who have expertise in treating a wide range of diseases and disorders of the kidneys such as chronic kidney disease, end stage kidney disease, renal transplantation and kidney stones. According to U.S. News and World Report (July, 2007), our program is ranked #22 in the United States.

The Section of Nephrology maintains three hemodialysis centers in the Hyde Park area and a chronic ambulatory peritoneal dialysis center and a home dialysis program out of The University of Chicago Hospitals, providing care to over 400 patients. The Section maintains an inpatient transplant service and is responsible for all outpatient care after renal transplantation. Additionally, the Section manages a large patient population with acute renal failure on the consultative service.

The Section of Nephrology has a world renowned program in the research and clinical management of kidney stones as well as clinical expertise in immunological renal diseases.
