Facilities/Space
The Structural Biology Section of the Cell Biology Core functions
as a service facility to provide access to transmission and scanning
electron microscopy, confocal microscopy, light microscopy, immunofluorescence,
and image processing. The equipment available is extremely expensive
(the cost of the available equipment exceeds $1,000,000), complex
to operate, and proper interpretation of the data requires considerable
experience. Moreover, sample preparation requires a full-time technician
with years of experience. Individuals using this section are provided
whatever level of service they require in order to examine their
specimens and interpret their data. These range from their presenting
samples and getting back micrographs to training individuals to
operate the equipment on their own.
