Department of Medicine

A wide variety of basic and clinical research opportunities are available. All fellows are encouraged to participate in research. Many fellows present at national meetings and publish articles by the completion of the fellowship program.

Fellows usually identify mentors prior to the beginning of the research training period. Well developed research programs exist for both clinical and bench investigation. The flexibility afforded by the size and interdisciplinary nature of The University of Chicago Division of Biological Sciences allows Fellows to tailor their research training to their individual interests as well.

Training opportunities within the Section exist in basic research areas such as:

  • Molecular Biology, Gene Therapy and Biochemistry
  • Ultrastructure
  • Lipid Biology
  • Cellular Electrophysiology and Muscle Mechanics

And in clinical and applied basic research areas such as:

  • Interventional Cardiology, Angiography and Ischemic Heart Disease
  • Hemodynamics, Myocardial Function, and Regional Perfusion (Invasive and Noninvasive)
  • Electrocardiography and Electrophysiology
  • Heart Failure
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation and Preventative Cardiology
  • Noninvasive Cardiac Imaging
